چکیده
Abstract A dynamical resolution to the cosmological constant fine-tuning problem has been previously put forward, based on a gravitational scalar–tensor theory possessing de Sitter attractor solutions characterized by small Hubble expansion rate, irrespective of an initially large vacuum energy. We show that technically natural subregion parameter space yields evolution through radiation- and matter-dominated eras is essentially indistinguishable from predicted general relativity. Similarly, proposed model automatically satisfies observational constraints fifth force mediated new scalar degree freedom.

Phantom Matter and the Cosmological Constant
Motivated by some recent speculative attempts to model the dark energy, scalar fields with negative kinetic energy coupled to gravity without a cosmological constant are considered. It is shown that in the presence of an ordinary fluid, any solution of the vacuum Einstein equations with cosmological constant is a solution provided ρ− P = Λ 4πG . The solutions can be interpreted as a steady stat...
متن کاملA New Cosmological Paradigm: the Cosmological Constant and Dark Matter
The Standard Cosmological Model of the 1980’s is no more. I describe the definitive evidence that the density of matter is insufficient to result in a flat universe, as well as the mounting evidence that the cosmological constant is not zero. I finally discuss the implications of these results for particle physics and direct searches for non-baryonic dark matter, and demonstrate that the new ne...
متن کاملSupersymmetric dark matter with a cosmological constant
Recent measurements of cosmological parameters from the microwave background radiation, type Ia supernovae, and the age of globular clusters help determine the relic matter density in the universe. It is first shown with mild cosmological assumptions that the relic matter density satisfies ΩMh 2 < 0.6 independent of the cosmological constant and independent of the SNIa data. Including the SNIa ...
متن کاملSimulations of Quintessential Cold Dark Matter: beyond the cosmological constant
We study the nonlinear growth of cosmic structure in different dark energy models, using large volume N-body simulations. We consider a range of quintessence models which feature both rapidly and slowly varying dark energy equations of state, and compare the growth of structure to that in a universe with a cosmological constant. We use a four parameter equation of state for the dark energy whic...
متن کاملA Mechanism for Reducing the Value of the Cosmological Constant
The extremely small observational limits on the value of the cosmological constant indicate that the vacuum energy density in our universe has magnitude less than (0.003 eV) 4. The vacuum energy density receives contributions proport ional to the fourth power of virtually every mass scale in particle physics. Since each of these terms individually is many orders of magnitude larger than (0.003 ...
